BMP จัดเก็บข้อมูลพิกเซลในบิตแมปอิสระจากอุปกรณ์พร้อมการบีบอัด RLE แบบเสริม รองรับความลึกสีตั้งแต่ 1 บิตถึง 32 บิต รวมถึงช่องสัญญาณ alpha 8 บิต

ประวัติ

BMP ถูกเปิดตัวพร้อมกับ Windows 1.0 ในปี 1985 ในฐานะรูปแบบภาพดั้งเดิมสำหรับแพลตฟอร์ม OS/2 และ Windows มีการอัปเดตหลายครั้ง โดยเวอร์ชันล่าสุดรองรับโปรไฟล์สี ICC
