技術的詳細

MOVはMP4と同じアトムベース構造を使用しますが、Apple ProRes、Apple Intermediate Codec、タイムコードトラックなどApple固有のコーデック拡張をサポートします。QuickTimeは複数のビデオ/オーディオトラック、テキストトラック、チャプターマーカーを保持できます。

歴史

Appleは1991年にマルチメディアフレームワークとしてQuickTimeを導入し、MOVフォーマットはそのネイティブコンテナとなりました。MP4（ISO BMFF）はMOVのアトムベース構造から派生しています。
