BMP (Bitmap Image File)

BMP adalah format gambar raster tanpa kompresi yang berasal dari Microsoft Windows. Format ini menyimpan data piksel tanpa kompresi, menghasilkan file yang sangat besar tetapi tanpa kehilangan kualitas sama sekali. BMP terutama digunakan dalam grafik sistem Windows dan sebagai format perantara selama pemrosesan gambar.

BMP menyimpan data piksel dalam bitmap yang tidak bergantung pada perangkat dengan kompresi RLE opsional. Format ini mendukung kedalaman warna dari 1-bit hingga 32-bit termasuk kanal alpha 8-bit.

Riwayat

BMP diperkenalkan bersama Windows 1.0 pada tahun 1985 sebagai format gambar native untuk platform OS/2 dan Windows. Format ini telah diperbarui beberapa kali dengan versi terbaru mendukung profil warna ICC.
