Vidéo WebM

WebM est un format vidéo ouvert et libre de droits développé par Google pour le web. Il utilise les codecs vidéo VP8, VP9 ou AV1 avec l'audio Vorbis ou Opus dans un conteneur basé sur Matroska. WebM est nativement pris en charge dans Chrome, Firefox, Edge et Android.

WebM est un profil du conteneur Matroska restreint aux codecs vidéo VP8/VP9/AV1 et audio Vorbis/Opus. Il utilise le balisage binaire EBML et est conçu pour le streaming web à faible surcharge.

Historique

Google a introduit WebM en 2010 après l'acquisition d'On2 Technologies et la mise en open source de VP8. VP9 a suivi en 2013, et AV1 (développé par l'Alliance for Open Media) a été ajouté en 2018.
