Adding low-level noise before bit depth reduction to mask quantization distortion. It trades inaudible noise for audible artifacts — always use when going from 24 to 16 bit.
Is 32-bit float better for recording?
32-bit float can't clip internally (1528 dB range), making gain staging foolproof. Ideal for recording if your interface supports it.
